Dongdaemun Week 18

Dear Family and Friends,

This was a great week especially with the Baptism of Jang-Choon on Saturday.  Jang-Choon was just really prepared all around.  The High Preists' Group Leader even got up during Sacrament meeting for his talk and talked about how Jang-Choon was the most prepared investigator he has ever seen.  He has attended a lot of different churches, but really liked meeting with us and coming to church here.  He is always smiling and has such a great attitude, humbly listening and praying about the message we shared.  For the service on Saturday, since only the second counselor could make it, Bishop asked me if I would conduct the meeting.  It was pretty nerve racking, but I'm glad I did it.  Quite a few people came including our wonderful Mission President who bore powerful testimony.  Another highlight was the missionaries' "I am a Child of God" musical number with the ukulele and the guitar.  Jang-Choon also said that he felt good while Elder Ashby was baptizing him.  All in all, it was a pretty great time.

Rewind back a day, on which we saw a huge miracle.  So Elder Ridge and I were teaching a 77 year-old man English and the gospel at the church as part of our 30/30 program while Elder Ashby and Elder Green were on exchanges at the mission office.  Just as we start, we get a text from our investigator who says that he got a feeling that he should be baptized and was wondering if he could get baptized on the same day as Jang-Choon.  I was so surprised that I almost couldn't focus on the lesson.  After the lesson was over, as we were walking out, our 77year-old investigator, who is retired special forces for Korea, beats Elder Ashby and I in arm-wrestling....Pictures to come haha (Pretty Embarrassing)

So we agreed to meet the investigator who texted a couple hours later.  Our investigator's name is Sang-Jae, and he is about 25 years-old.  He's currently attending Korea University and has been to church twice already.  We meet him at the school and first went to watch our other investigator (who is Chinese)'s Taekwondo show full of flying kicks, breaking boards, and lots of screaming.  After seeing our Chinese investigator's show, we headed back with Sang-Jae to the church where we had one of the most spiritual lessons I've been a part of.  He had so many great questions and we just ended up talking heart-to-heart for a while.  We've already taught him the first the lesson since we met him a week and a half ago on the street.  He should be baptized soon, but since he lives in a different area, we are going to refer him this week.

So this was a pretty great week to end the transfer on.  Elder Ashby leaves for America in 3 days,  My new companion will be a Korean transferring from Sokcho who started his mission at the same time as I did.

Thanks for all the love and support.  If you have any other questions, feel free to email me!
